Calculator Math
Materials:
  • 1 Everything Math Deck, 4 cards each of digits 0-9 only (or an equivalent set of number cards)
  • a slate for each player
  • a calculator for each player
Number of Players:

Two (2) to Four (4)

Directions:

One player shuffles the cards and stacks them number-side down on the playing surface.

Another player starts each round by turning over the top 4 cards in the deck.  Then each player:

  1. Makes up a multiplication problem, using all 4 digits on the cards.
  2. Writes the problem on his or her slate, but doesn't let the other players see it.
  3. Find the product on his or her calculator and then writes it on his or her slate.

The player with the largest product scores 1 point.  If two or more players tie for the largest product, each scores 1 point.

Players play five rounds.  The player with the most points after five rounds wins.

Sample Round:

The following cards are turned over:  4, 7, 2, 5.  The players make up these problems:

  • Sally:  752 x 4; Melvin:  72 x 54;
    Nicole:  542 x 7; Ling:  74 x 52
  • Answers:  3008; 3888; 3794; 3848
  • Melvin has the largest product and therefore scores 1 point.
