Achievement Grade Key

Teachers assess students in many different ways including standards-based classroom assessments throughout their school day in order to get a complete understanding of a student’s performance level. Markings are based on several grading scales.


E = Exceeds Standards
This describes students who consistently exceed the district standards. They exhibit an exceptional level of understanding through clear, detailed, extended explanations to items on daily work, homework, activities, projects and assessments. They demonstrate new and creative ways of thinking. They apply learning to other subject areas and life situations.


M = Meets Standard Consistently
This describes students who consistently meet the district standards. They exhibit an expected level of understanding and generally give correct answers, but usually do not elaborate on daily work, homework, activities, projects, or assessments. They demonstrate sound thinking and apply learning to other subject areas.


W = Working Toward Standard
This describes students who are working toward meeting the district standards. They exhibit a developing level of understanding of concepts or skills. Their have some correct answers but many may be incorrect or incomplete. They require extra time, instruction, assistance and practice.


N = Not Meeting Standard
This describes students who are not meeting district standards. They exhibit a limited level of understanding. Their answers are fragmented pieces of information that do not communicate or demonstrate an observable understanding of concepts or skills. They require an extended amount of time, instruction, assistance and practice.
