This is the statue
called, "Liberty Enlightening the World."
The world, however, knows her as The Statue of Liberty
On July 4, 1884 France decided
to give the United States an outstanding birthday gift: the Statue
of Liberty! The people of France gave the statue to the people
of the United States because they liked our idea of freedom.
Sculptor Frederic Bartholdi
(bar-TOLE-dee) designed the statue of the famous woman holding a torch.
The torch stands for freedom. Another word for freedom is liberty.
When people from around the
world see the Statue of Liberty, they think
of our country, the United States of America. They also think of liberty
and freedom.
The Statue
of Liberty is located in New York. The Statue
of Liberty symbolizes freedom throughout the world.
